Guess what? I didn't stay still...
May 8, 2009
Last night was another long night. Just like the doctors had anticipated Airica got a little too wiggly. She was moving her hands, her arms, her feet, and trying to move her head. The canulla that was oxygenating her blood was on the right side of her neck in a very large artery. As she tried to move her big head (she's not offended, her head is big like mine) and wiggled she was causing this life giving connection to come loose. At first it started to bleed a little, then a little more, until the stitches that were holding it in place were coming undone.
The scene played out somewhat like it had before. Lots of doctors, surgeons to be paged, removing mom from the room, and anxious waiting. It was a little area but a big artery, and had to be taken care of delicately. Of course I was outside the room freaking out. Trying not to, but in the back of my mind knowing this little connection was what was keeping her alive. Thinking that she has come so far, fought so hard, then for a tiny thing like this to happen and put her in so much danger was crazy!
(This was the bleeding a little)
After what seemed like forever they came out and told us that the procedure went wonderfully and that she was doing fine. She was pretty messy (lots of blood) but she was back on track plus with a little wiggle room...literally! They added some extra stitches to compensate for her inability to stay still.
(Me loving Airica after the procedure)
Once all of this was over it was no longer last night it was today. The day was quiet Airica was resting and finally being still (due to the drugs they gave her for the procedure). Once they wore off, she was back to her wiggly self. This time she even was showing emotions in her face in reaction to me! I won't ruin that part it's in the journal page.
